Nordikos is Bornholm's only artisanal ice pop producer with a fast growing network of top notch resellers, including Mikkeller Årsdale, Torvehal Bornholm and Ekkodalshuset. After nurturing Nordikos through three years of triple digit growth (+ 273% yoy in 2021), the company is primed for scale up. While Nordikos currently runs as a wholesaler, the concept can effectively be expanded to retail. We see two potential tracks for an interested buyer:
1. Scale Nordikos to its full potential on Bornholm and beyond (requires a capital investment)
2. Run Nordikos as a family business and grow sales organically
The sale includes our field-tested proprietary recipes, used premium equipment, marketing assets, trusted repeat resellers, and a pipeline of qualified leads in Bornholm and beyond.
+273% sales increase year over year
14,116 pops sold over 2021 season
DKK 300,225 in revenue (incl. VAT)
10 resellers on Bornholm
Folkemøde collaboration with retail chain 7/11
Because of capacity constraints, we've had to say no to multiple interested customers in Bornholm and beyond (phone numbers/emails are included in sale). Among existing customers alone we have untapped demand that would account for a doubling of revenue in 2022.
The company is debt free and currently operating at breakeven. Detailed figures are available on inquiry.
Nordikos specializes in 100% artisanal ice pops handcrafted daily from our own proprietary recipes in our production facilities in Aakirkeby. Our approach is simple: copious amounts of high quality Nordic berries and fruit. Depending on the pop, we add organic cream, milk, premium chocolate, home-baked Makroner, roasted walnuts, and more, to create intensely flavored, textured pops with unique visuals.
We keep our pops free of artificial stabilizers, colorants and preservatives. This is also why they melt faster than conventional ice cream, but we regard this as a badge of quality. Another characteristic of our artisanal pops is that they are denser and heavier than regular ice cream, because our pops are not infused with air. They also pack more flavor, which is something consumers love and comment on frequently (We have a Google reviews rating of 4.6 and Facebook 5.0). We are constantly updating our flavor library, either putting our own twist on popular Nordic desserts or creating new ones. All recipes are included in the sale.
Our ice pops are sold through a network of local resellers, including cafes, restaurants, gourmet markets, hotels and camping sites. In 2021 Gourmet Bornholm and Ekkodalshuset (among others) joined the Nordikos universe as resellers. Retail chain 7/11 selected Nordikos as their exclusive Bornholm ice cream brand for their 2021 Folkemøde food stand.
We offer take away boxes (styrofoam) of 6 pops for customers to take home.
We try to source as many ingredients as possible from Bornholm and have collaborated with several producers and farmers on the island. We see a longer term transition to certified organic ice pops as necessary, and have been working toward that. There is a growing emphasis on organic farming on Bornholm, with numerous initiatives being launched to make organic sourcing easier for local food entrepreneurs (see Bornholms Økojord A/S).
All our marketing has been through our own website, social media channels and word of mouth. Since we operate as a wholesaler, we have focused primarily on resellers rather than end consumers, but our pops are a visual treat and ideally suited for social channels. We have built a dedicated presence on Facebook and Instagram (970 followers) that resonates with end consumers and food influencers. We've earned a 4.6 rating on Google reviews. Nordikos has been featured in the Danish media, appearing twice on the TV2 Bornholm program "Mellem os i sommerlandet", in Bornholms Tidende and in Mad og Mennesker, among others.
All graphic assets used in marketing and selling our product are included in the sale, from product photography to graphics used for marketing materials, reseller kits, web and social media.

“I AM IMPRESSED WITH THE FLAVOR. THANK YOU FOR HAVING VEGAN OPTIONS!”
“THIS IS NOT YOUR AVERAGE ICE CREAM JOINT, BUT A GEM! TASTY GOURMET POPSICLES FOR THE DISCERNING ADULT, MADE WITH NORDIC FRUITS AND BERRIES.”
"I WOULD HAVE TASTED THEM ALL BECAUSE IT IS NOT EASY TO CHOOSE. I WAS REALLY IMPRESSED WITH THE PRODUCT SO INTENSE, ORIGINAL, DIFFERENT AND OF QUALITY. "
All equipment and machinery required for artisanal ice pop production is included in the sale. A detailed list is available upon inquiry. The machinery we've chosen to buy is best in class for small-scale ice cream production.
Nordikos has outgrown its current production facility. This gives the new owner(s) flexibility in choosing where they want the business to be located on the island. Because of its entrepreneurial culture, Bornholm has a wide offer of production facilities for rent, including the new spaces at Konservesfabrikken in Nexø.
An interested buyer can either continue to run the company at current sales levels with existing machinery, or scale up to take advantage of demand. Scaling up will require an estimated DKK 300,000 for new, best in class machinery, including a pop wrapping machine (for an output of +100,000 pops per season). Bornholm's entrepreneurial ecosystem offers many advantageous financing opportunities for food startups through funding and grant organizations like Bornholms Indkøbsforening and LAG-Bornholm (Lokale Aktions Grupper).
We are husband and wife team Jacob Gotfredsen and Vanessa Fabiano, and we founded Nordikos in Madrid, Spain. We first launched as a retail business in 2017 with a mission to share the vibrant flavors of the Nordic kitchen with the world. Hence our tagline, A Bite of Nordic Summer - Nordisk sommer på en pind. Our handcrafted Nordic pops were featured on multiple lists of the city's best ice creams, and Nordikos was covered in magazines like Vogue, Conde Nast Traveler and Elle.
In 2019, as a result of personal and professional changes, we relocated Nordikos to Bornholm, pivoted to wholesaler, and built a fast-growing network of trusted local resellers, which now includes established food brands like Mikkeller, Torvehal Bornholm, and Ekkodalshuset.
After putting Nordikos on the Bornholm map and nurturing it through three years of amazing growth, the company is now primed for scaling. But we have other projects we'd like to pursue and we've come to the realization that we can't put in the required time and focus to grow our startup further. We have therefore decided to sell and let someone else continue the Nordikos story.
Nordikos has a unique positioning as the only ice pop producer on the island, and the only Bornholm native ice pop brand focused on Nordic flavors and design. Our strategy has been to exploit this position and establish a strong product and reseller network on Bornholm, before expanding further.
There is plenty of opportunity to expand the business on the island. Bornholm is a popular tourism and food destination with more than 600K tourists visiting the island every year, generating DKK 1.83 billion in turnover. The island has a strong ecosystem for food entrepreneurs and has created many organizations and institutions to actively support food companies by providing knowledge, networking opportunities, marketing support, access to funding and production facilities.
There are also important B2B and B2C distribution channels that Nordikos is currently not exploiting and which could drive revenue growth over the next years, such as private and corporate event catering, pop up shops, food markets, online shop, aso.
In 2022 Molslinjen will introduce a new ferry, the world's largest catamaran with capacity for 1610 passengers and 451 cars. It will run between Ystad (Sweden) and Rønne (Bornholm
